MY Letter to Dan Gilbert

Cavs owner, Dan Gilbert is big on sending letters and emails, presumably in some goofy font, so I'd thought that I would send him a letter via my blog. I want the hits, duh.

Dear Mr. Gilbert,

While I respect your passion as a fan, you have to understand that you, along with being a fan, are an owner. As an owner, it is your job to put a product on the court that we the fans will pay to see. You have failed at this. Let me explain. Had you and your basketball people made better basketball moves, LeBron might still be a Cavalier. If you had brought in Amare Stoudemire instead of Jamison, maybe LeBron is still in the wine & gold. You and your basketball people brought in Shaq on the downside, waaaaaay downside of his great career. You brought in Ben Wallace, who was a great defensive player, but couldn't score to save his life. The Cavs always needed a second scorer while LeBron was here. Amare would've been a nice fit. You didn't pull the trigger to bring him in. LeBron felt he had a better shot to win in Miami and he bolted. You got mad and fired off a letter. The letter reminded me at the time of a small child who was throwing a hissy fit in the middle of Marc's. You said the Cavs would win a title before the Heat. Okay, is the Baron Davis move the move that puts the Cavs over the hump. Nope. You lucked out and had the 1st and 3rd picks in this past years draft. Hopefully those guys win in a hurry, cause they won't be here long. As soon as that rookie contract is done, so are they in Cleveland.

Which brings me to your email about the Chris Paul trade. I understand that the NBA owns the Hornets. I understand that you want what's best for the Cavs. BUT, if you look at the trade, the Hornets did pretty well in the trade. Unlike you, the Hornets know that Chris Paul will not resign with them. This is a lot like baseball, you know a player isn't going to resign with you so you trade the player to get something in return instead of just letting the player walk away. These trades happen every season in baseball. The Hornets are trying to get something for a player that's not coming back. This trade makes sense for the Hornets.

Danny boy, you don't like that Chris Paul is going to the Lakers. A big market team and Cleveland is a small market team. You don't want to see super teams. Here's the thing, instead of emailing and whining about other teams making moves, why don't you and your basketball people make a move! Strange concept, I know. Don't bring in a guy who will sit at the end of the bench and will be a garbage time hero. Bring in players that can actually play. You say you want to bring a winner to Cleveland. Talking about it and making it happen are two very different things. Make it happen and you'll be a hero. Right now you look like a guy who is really good at complaining.

Signed,
Everybody that wants you to shut up and stop making Cleveland look bad.
