Another Black Friday has come and gone. This Black Friday, it seemed that people acted A LOT dumber than normal. Would it be nice to get a 50 inch TV for 200 bucks? Yep. Am I going to stand in line at midnight and get into a fight over it? Nope. Why? Cause I have a brain. I woke up on Friday at my regular time, fed the pups, hopped on line to read story after story of people making jackasses of themselves. Fighting over a $2 waffle maker? VIDEO Have these people never heard of Eggos? A Hollister store was robbed. (Story) A woman pepper sprayed fellow shoppers at Walmart so she could get to the Xbox games. (Story) This story takes the cake, A man DIED in a Target and people just walked over him. (Story) What the hell is wrong with people? Did they say to the guy, "We'd love to help you, but did you see the deal on that TV?" Is a TV really worth a mans life? Apparently to the people who just walked over him, yep, it is.
Maybe it's just me, but Black Friday is EVERYTHING that is wrong with the Christmas Season which now starts before Halloween. It's not even Friday anymore, it starts on Thanksgiving. Hurry up and eat kids so we can freeze our asses off waiting in line! Is this really what we want kids to see? Really? Really? People making fools of themselves to save 50 bucks on a toaster? Great message to send to the next generation.
My wife LOVES Christmas. I can't stand it. Why? Did you read the 2 paragraphs prior to this one? Christmas isn't about family and friends and being nice to your fellow person. Nope, it's about setting price limits on how much you spend when buying presents. Its about trying to figure out which aunt, uncle, cousin its okay to buy for. Its about, well, this person won't like this, so I'll just get him/her a gift card. That, to me, just screams merry freaking Christmas! (That's sarcasm kids)
Next time you're at a store with your kids and you see the giving tree, why not grab a name off of the tree and help somebody. My wife and I do it every year and its fun. Actually show your kids that Christmas is about GIVING and not RECEIVING. Strange concept for modern day America, I know, but they might actually learn that it feels good to help other people. Otherwise, take your car commercials with the fancy ribbons and cram it. (seriously, who gets a car?) Wake me up on December 26th.
