Thoughts On Stone Sour's House of Gold & Bones Pt. 1

I'm going to try and give you my take (like you give a crap) on some of the music I've been listening to. If there's something I should be listening to, please let me know.

Yesterday, I downloaded the new Stone Sour album, House of Gold and Bones Part 1. I was, and still am,  a big fan of the first single released by the band, Gone Sovereign/Absolute Zero. Its two (yes two) songs that  flow right into each other. The songs seem to have more of an edge compared to previous Stone Sour releases. The songs to have more anger in them. Even the "lighter" songs like The Travelers, Parts 1 and 2. Tired, which is my favorite song on the album, dives into the feeling of just not giving a crap anymore. As the lyric reads; I'm just too young to care." Another lyric in the song reads; "I just want to watch the world burn." Who hasn't thought that? All of the songs have some dejected, angry, theme. There's nothing wrong with that. I actually prefer to have a pissed off themed album. At least it has a theme! Twelve songs that belong on the same project. Strange concept!

I've heard comparisons to Slipknot, which I can hear, but I don't think it's as close to Slipknot as some seem to think. Does it have influences? Yes. Corey Taylor is the lead singer of both bands! It would be silly if there weren't some similarities. Musically, the album is filled with tempo changes, growling vocals, double kick drums and guitar solos. Parts of the album have a classic metal influence and other parts have a modern, industrial sound. Its a very cool, different sound. I don't think they just dumped everything into Pro-Tools and put some effects on the songs. Thought was actually put into the sound of this album.

If you're a fan of hard rock, metal, Slipknot or any of Stone Sour's previous efforts, you'll enjoy this. Just put the cruse control on when listening to it in the car...if you don't you'll find yourself driving at a high rate of speed.
