RG3 and the Browns

I woke up at 4:30 this morning with my brain drafting this post. I have zero reason to be up that early since I'm not on morning radio right now. Damn this mind of mine!

A lot of the "experts" are saying the Browns need to draft Robert Griffin III. In order to move up in the draft to snag RG3, the Browns would have to trade this years draft and part of next years draft. Are you willing to give up that much for one guy? I say no. It's not because he's a bad kid or doesn't have the talent. By all accounts he's a good kid with a bright future. Here's the problem with trading away so many picks. Who, if drafted by the Browns, would RG3 throw the ball to? Gregg Little? He couldn't catch a cold last season. Mohamed Massaquio? Dude was either hurt or invisible on the field. Josh Cribbs? Not a WR. Jordan Norwood? If you're looking for 3 yards when you need 5 for the 1st down, Norwood is the guy. Who's the tight end? Who's going to be the running back? There are way too many holes on the offense to say that one guy is the cure all and trading away so many picks when there are so many holes is asking for many more 4-12 seasons.

Look at the history of Cleveland Browns QB's since they've been back in the league. Tim Couch was a cannot miss. Kellie Holcomb, Trent Dilfer, Jeff Garcia, Brady Quinn, Charlie Frye, (yep, I brought up Charlie Frye.) Derek Anderson, Seneca Wallace, Colt McCoy and that's not everybody!!! What says after one bad season, RG3 doesn't end up like these guys. Actually, if drafted by the Browns, I expect RG3 to end up just like these guys. Why? No offensive line, so he'll be running for his life, just like the others. No running game to support him, so he'll be running for his life. No decent WR's or TE's to throw the ball to, so he'll be running for his life, just like the others. Seeing a pattern yet? Then the sports media in this city will be calling him a bust for problems that were not addressed by the Browns...just like they're doing with Colt McCoy, who tried running for his life and nearly had his head taken off.

When there are so many problems on the offensive side of the ball, and to mortgage that much of this and next years draft on one guy is not the answer. The Browns need a stud WR. Justin Blackmon would look damn good in a Browns jersey. If they're concerned about the QB position, there are plenty in the draft and in free agency to take a look at.

Hopefully you're getting my drift. I'm not an expert. I'm a dude who watches the games and shakes my head because it's the same issues that have prevented this team from progressing since '99. This is nothing new and bringing in ANOTHER "franchise" QB will have the same result as previous years. The Browns need to draft studs who can play NOW or there will be a lot more empty orange seats at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
