I had this idea and thought what the hell?!?
Every day I'm going to give you the song that is stuck in my head for that day. It could be a country song, rock song, pop song, something from the 1940s, a TV jingle, whatever! There's usually a story that goes with it and I'll drop the story that goes with the song.
Today's entry is the first country song that I really liked. I'm not counting songs from Shania. That sh*t crossed over and country in the dust. This song is the first real country song that I liked when I first started working in the radio business.
I was hired at WGAR to run the board for After Midnite with Blair Garner on weekends and holidays. I didn't care I had my first real radio job. And I didn't know sh*t about country music. So I came into the format totally green. Then one night I'm sitting in the studio, I think it was one of the first nights I was by myself in the studio, and a song came on that caught my attention. It was by a woman who I had never heard of, but her voice stood out. Her name was...and probably still is, Rebecca Lynn Howard. The was "Forgive." Her album was the first country album I ever listened to. It wasn't bad. But the single was better than the album. For some reason, that song still randomly pops into my head. It just happened like two days ago while I was cutting the grass. Why? I don't know?!?! But I still like the song.
Here it is, the song that is stuck in my head for Thursday, July 22nd, 2021. Rebecca Lynn Howard - Forgive.
