New Year's Eve 2020. We say goodbye to a dumpster fire of a year and we also say goodbye to The Office on Netflix. The hit comedy leaves the streaming giant for NBC's "Peacock". So what should you watch now that Michael, Pam, Dwight, Jim and the rest of the crew have packed their briefcase's? Here are some of my recommendations.
Schitt's Creek: Eugene Levy, his son, Daniel, Catherine O'Hara, Annie Murphy star in this comedy about a wealthy family that loses everything and is forced to live in a motel in a tiny, blue collar city that they purchased as a joke. It's not filmed as a documentary like The Office but the humor is on the same level. The show ran six seasons and recently cleaned up at the Emmy Awards. Schitt's Creek is currently on Netflix and is well worth your time. I give my wife full credit for telling me to watch this one.
Brooklyn 99: Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, Stephanie Beatriz, Melissa Fumero, Andre Braugher and Joe Lo Truglio star in this comedy about the adventures of the Brooklyn PD's 99th precinct. Andy Samberg is goofy but, lovable Det. Jake Peralta who's laid back, nonchalant style clashes with Andre Braugher's uptight Capt. Raymond Holt. Each character is very well defined. You know the traits of everybody by the end of the first episode. The show's comedy can be a little low-brow at times but it works. Brooklyn 99 is on Hulu.
Community: Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Donald Glover and Chevy Chase star in this comedy about a suspended lawyer (Joel McHale) who has to attend a community college and finds himself in a study group with misfits and outcasts. The show follows the group on their adventures at school. This show is severely underrated. The humor is very quick and sarcastic. There are some WTF?!? moments in the show but that's what keeps you on your toes while watching. Community is on Netflix.
Arrested Development: Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Portia De Rosi and Will Arnett star in this comedy about a one man's quest to save his father's company after he's imprisoned. Michael Blush (Jason Bateman) is the level-headed son who is trying to raise his son, George-Michael Bluth while dealing with his very over the top family. The show features the same comedy styling as The Office and Schitt's Creek. So if you like those shows, you should like Arrested Development.
